Landscape with Two Breton Women

Artist: Paul Gaugin,1889

Floral designers;

Kari P. and Michelle C.

The arrangement is pretty much a literal "copy" of the painting.  i.e. two little white flowers depict the women's bonnets.   The branch leaning to the right,the tree.   Michelle is genealogically connected to the painting as she has Breton descendents.

Cult Head for Yam

Cult Head for Yam is a fertility symbol of the Kwoma tribe of New Guinea. Once the primary crop of yams was harvested they would place the mask on a pile of yams and conduct a ceremony celebrating it.

At first glance at this three foot high wooden mask, I was unsure how we would interpret it!

2023

Floral Designers:

Terry H. and Charlotte D.

However, we settled on creating a replica of the mask with plant material — using eucalyptus which grew in the Pacific Southwest, African Mask plant or alocasia, a variety of tropical leaves, protea for the eyes and the most inspired choice of all was creating a mound of yams with orange alstroemeria! We grew very fond of “our” mask and named him Kwome

Romanesque statue of theVirgin and Child

Floral designers; Michelle C. and Regina P.

The Lenten Rose and peach carnations were use for their color and  religious meanings.  According to Christian legend, the first pink carnation on Earth grew from Mary’s tears when she wept for Jesus as he carried his cross. Four hoops made with vines create another madonna and child within the arrangement.
