Plant daffodil bulbs in the fall or early winter when the soil temperature is 60°F or colder. In the North, this is usually September or October, and in the South, it's usually October or November.
Choose a spot with well-draining soil that gets full sun or partial shade.
Dig a hole that's about three times as deep as the bulb is tall, and space the holes 4–6 inches apart. Place the bulb in the hole with the pointed end facing up.
